COVID19 Update from Dorchester Athletic Club and England Athletics 17 Mar 2020 March-17-2020



It is with regret that Dorchester Athletic Club Committee has unanimously decided that all club activities, including training, competing and its AGM will be suspended with immediate effect.

The decision was reached in the best interests of all our athletes and their families.

Will all persons responsible for paying the athletes’ club fees please cancel their Standing Order payments with effect from 1st April 2020.

We wish you all the best of health and employment over the months ahead and look forward to your return when club activities resume.


England Athletics

"England Athletics advises that all face-to-face activity such as club training sessions, events, competitions, club committee and face-to-face meetings, athlete camps, running groups and social events should be suspended until at least the end of April."


"Qualifying races

We are currently undergoing a contingency planning process for qualifying races and will keep everyone updated as soon as possible.

Road Races

We will be working with our partner runbritain to coordinate a communication detailing appropriate advice and guidance to road race organisers in the immediate future.


No emergency services will attend large gatherings so it is unavoidable that competitions will now be suspended until at least the end of April. We are in contact with event organisers to find suitable alternative dates within the competition calendar and the our cancellations page link is kept up to date:"

2019 YDL  Competition at Bournemouth

 Dorchester Athletic Club Roundup:


Our athletes have enjoyed a successful 2019 season and we're only halfway through it. PBs and Club records broken, Team success and individual success to English Schools selection.


There have been Club, County and Regional events. In the Youth Development and SW Athletics Leagues our athletes have excelled enabling Team Dorset to win its first three matches against other clubs and Dorchester Athletic Club to win its first match in the SW.


On a National level we have athletes who have competed for their School then regionally to win their places in the English Schools Competition in Birmingham on 12-13th July.


Combined results from the Dorset Schools Championship results, SW Schools Championship and Youth Development League:



Nia McConnell competing in the Somerset Schools Championship,  she became the Somerset County Champion in 200m and came 4th in the100m final. Nia won the 75m at YDL with a PB time of 10.7secs.


Maisy Herbert competed in the 75m at YDL achieving a PB of 11.3secs.


Junior (U15s):

Edward Bird competing at YDL in the 1500m event, coming 1st in a time of 4mins17.6secs, which puts Ed as 1st in Southwest and 9th in the UK amazing feat. Ed has qualified for and been selected for the


Katie Evans 100m 12.6sec a PB  in heat and final to become Dorset County Champion. Then in the 200m straight final and huge PB to 25.8secs and County Champion. She qualifies for English schools in both events. This was further assurred in the SW Schools Championship where she competed at 100m coming second in her heat and final bettering her PB to  12.47secs; then in the 200m straight final, Katie came 1st becoming the SW Champion with a massive PB of 25.69secs. Katie's sprinting brilliance shone again coming 2nd in the 100m with a time of 12.5secs and winning the 200m at YDL with a PB time of 26.1secs placing her joint 1st in the Southwest.


Molly White 75mHurdles heat 11.9secs and PB then in the Final 11.7secs and another PB to become County Champion and qualify for English Schools. Molly reasserted her dominance of the hurdles by comfortably winning at the YDL match in Bournemouth with a time of 12secs.


Charlie Brookes 200m 24.9secs, he also competed in the Long Jump 5.29m 3rd place. Charlie competed at YDL in the 100m coming 1st with a  PB of 12.2secs and 300m winning with a PB time of 39.4secs.


Vince Mason 200m 25.3secs to equal his PB, 3rd overall and 41.6secs 300m finishing 15m ahead of the field in his heat. In a slower race than usual for both heats, Vince came 3rd overall. Vince competed magnificently in the Youth Development League competition in Bournemouth where, having already run a near PB in the 200m 25.4secs, he comfortably won his 300m race with a PB of 39.8secs. He went on to be part of the 4x100m and the winning 4x300m Relay teams. Sprinting a remarkable 900m in total in this YDL match.


Intermediate (U17) at the Dorset Schools Championship:

Billy Winch competing at 200m 24.7secs and also 400m 56.5secs, coming 3rd


Dan Perry competing at 100mHurdles came first with a time of 14.6secs a PB; then also excelling at Long Jump with a distance of 6.20m a big PB and coming 2nd; and  followed this performance in the SW Schools Championship by bettering his Long Jump PB by another 2 cm with a distance of 6.22m.


Senior (U20):

Jacob competing at the Dorset Schools Championship in the 400m came 1st with a time of  53.4secs.


Liv Willmore competing in the SW Schools Championship was crowned Southwest Champion in the 400mHurdles


Field Events produced excellent performances at the Dorset Schools Championship:



 Maisy Herbert 1st  Javelin- 25m 93cm a PB

At the YDL match, Maisy Herbert won the Javelin event with a Grade 1 PB of 26.25m and  Ed Elliott won with a Grade 1 PB of 34.06m also in the javelin. Both are number 2 in the South West and  in the top 20 nationally.



Zara English Hammer - 25m 97cm 1st place; at the YDL match Zara experimented with new turning technique achieving 3rd place with a throw of 22.71m.


Courtney Cox  Shot Putt - 9m 30 - 3rd and a PB and Javelin 20m 89cm. In the YDL match Courtney had a PB of 9.35m winning the Shot Putt; she also achieved 16.72m and 21.23m in the discus and javelin respectively.


Freddie Pearce Discus - 21m 35cm and a PB then Javelin - 23m 08cm; then in the YDL match Freddie improved again with a PB of 24.18m in the javelin, and two more PBs in the shot 6.08m and hammer 13.80m; this was the first time he had done either of these events.
